Definition of placement
Placement measures where your brand ranks within an AI model’s response. Unlike traditional search results with a clear list of ten blue links, AI responses are conversational. KIME identifies the order in which brands are mentioned to determine your average ranking position. A lower numerical score indicates a higher (better) placement, meaning the AI prioritized your brand over others. Why placement matters
In the AI landscape, being mentioned is only half the battle; being mentioned first is critical for capturing user trust and clicks. Most users focus on the top one or two recommendations provided by an LLM. High visibility with poor placement suggests that while the AI knows your brand, it views your competitors as more authoritative or relevant answers for the specific query.Calculating average placement
KIME tracks the specific position of your brand in every response. If an AI model lists three products and your brand is the second one mentioned, your placement for that specific response is 2. We aggregate these positions across your entire prompt library to provide an Overall Placement score.Strategic analysis of placement
Analyzing your placement data helps you understand your level of authority in a category:- Top-tier placement (1.0 - 1.5): Your brand is the primary recommendation for most queries.
- Mid-tier placement (2.0 - 3.5): Your brand is frequently cited but often follows a more dominant competitor.
- Low-tier placement (4.0+): Your brand is treated as an alternative or “honorable mention” rather than a primary solution.
